Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke win contract for the delivery and installation of submarine power cables for a Danish offshore wind farm at Rødsand 7/9/2008 Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW), Nordenham, have been awarded by E.ON Sverige AB for the infield wiring of the offshore wind farm „Rødsand II“. The submarine power cable will be produced and installed by the specialists of NSW. Additionally, NSW will provide the equivalent state-of-the-art cable accessories.
Located 13 km south of the island Lolland in Denmark, Rødsand II will have a capacity of around 200 MW and will thus deliver the energy for 200,000 homes - which corresponds to a full 2% of total Danish electricity demand.
“NSW is very proud to be chosen by E.ON as supplier for this project. After the award of the infield wiring of two offshore wind farm projects, Rødsand II is another major milestone and our first project for the delivery and supply of submarine power cables outside Germany”, explains Rudolf Stahl, CEO at NSW.
With the planned completion of the farm in 2010 NSW will start with the delivery of the cable already in 2009. Installed in a water depth of 6-12 m the 36 kV submarine AC power cable will link 90 turbines of 2,3 MW each.
