Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH to supply and install MEG 1 export cable
Nordenham, June 2011 – On June 2, 2011, Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) has been awarded a major order by TenneT TSO GmbH (TenneT), a German-based transmission network operator, for the supply and installation of 2 x 13 kilometers of 155 kV AC submarine transmission cables.
The cable will provide the network connection of the offshore wind park transformer platform MEG 1 to the converter station DolWin alpha, which is operated by TenneT. DolWin alpha is located in approximately 75 km distance to the German Coast in the North Sea. The offshore converter station DolWin alpha is transforming the wind energy generated offshore from AC into DC current which is being transported a total of 165 km to the converter station Dörpen West. This 800 MW high-voltage direct-current transmission is being realized in TenneT’s project DolWin1.
Production is scheduled to start in 2012. The installation will be presumably carried out in the first half of 2013. In a simultaneous lay-and-burial process the cables will be installed in water depths from 25 meters to 34 meters and buried up to two meters into the soil. NSW will use a chartered DP 2 vessel as well as own offshore installation equipment.
Thorsten Schwarz, Managing Director NSW: “We are very proud that TenneT entrusts us with this project. It clearly shows that NSW with its turnkey product range is now well positioned to satisfy the growing need of the European Wind Industry for HV/AC export cables.”
“The final decision to choose NSW as partner for this project was grounded in NSW’s experience and simply their good offer”, states Frank Bohm, Project Coordinator TenneT for project DolWin1.
