Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH to supply the submarine power cable for the grid connection of the North Sea island Borkum
Nordenham, Januar 2012 – For the new connection of the North Sea island Borkum to the mainland power grid, Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) has been awarded by EWE NETZ GmbH the order to supply a medium-voltage submarine power cable of 25 km length. The 33 kV submarine cable consists of three 120 mm2 power cores plus two optical fiber elements for data transmission.
The cable will supplement already existing systems and thus further secure the energy supply of the island. It is planned to be installed along a new cable route.
Already in 2009, NSW has safely connected the high-seas island Helgoland with a 53 km power cable and has also successfully produced and installed the cables for various offshore wind farms.
Thorsten Schwarz, Managing Director NSW: „We are proud that EWE as strong and responsible regional grid operator has entrusted us with the order for the supply of this new submarine power cable. For NSW as a German company and especially also as neighbouring company of the UNESCO world heritage “Wattenmeer”, it is important that our products contribute to the sustainable and environmentally friendly energy supply of the region.
Torsten Maus, Managing Director EWE NETZ describes the cooperation as follows: “With NSW, we have found a competent, reliable and customer-oriented regional partner who, together with us, perfectly understands and fulfills the requirements for the new submarine cable to Borkum.”
